Steven Dettelbach was confirmed in the Senate today, so he will become the first permanent ATF head in 7 years.\u00a0 While not quite as openly anti-gun as the former gun-confiscation activist David Chipman or some of the Congressional loonies like Eric Swallowswell, the NRA and National Shooting sports Foundatioon (NSSF) opposed his nomination, though not to the degree that they did Chipman’s. Dettelbach is on record as supporting universal background checks (asking the govenment for pre-permission to sell your own property) universal registration lists (aka “confiscation enablers”) and the other wishlists of the hoplophobes. The votes was 48-46 – I suspect it broke along party lines.<\/p>\n
