Several media outlets are reporting that a U.S. citizen has died in the fighting in Ukraine. Stephen Zabielski, 52 y\/o, was killed on May 15, 2022 according to the U.S. State Department.<\/p>\n

Second US Citizen Killed in Ukraine Combat, State Dept. Says<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

A U.S. citizen was killed in combat in Ukraine last month after becoming one of thousands of foreign fighters to take up arms against Russian forces in the wake of\u00a0Moscow\u2019s invasion, the State Department said.<\/p>\n

The death was first announced in an\u00a0obituary<\/a>\u00a0published in The Recorder, an upstate New York newspaper, with the slain\u00a0American\u00a0identified as Stephen Zabielski, 52,\u00a0of Hernando, Florida. He previously lived in Cranesville, New York, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n

According to the obituary, Zabielski was killed\u00a0May 15 while fighting in the village of Dorozhniank, Ukraine. He is survived by his wife, five stepchildren, seven siblings and other family members.<\/p>\n

The State Department confirmed his death in a statement to NBC News and repeated warnings advising U.S. citizens against traveling to Ukraine\u00a0amid\u00a0Russia\u2019s invasion. It said that any U.S. citizens still in Ukraine should leave immediately.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Neither Zabielski’s obituary<\/a> or the article makes mention that he was in the U.S. Army.\u00a0 \u00a0Perhaps to not seem like his fighting over there was stationed in any way?\u00a0 \u00a0Who knows?<\/p>\n

We post this here because people will naturally ask – What was he doing over there and did he have any training and skills?<\/p>\n
