Alabama school resource officer shoots, kills \u2018suspicious\u2019 person outside elementary school: report<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA man described by police as “suspicious” has been shot and killed by a school resource officer after attempting to enter an Alabama elementary school Thursday morning, reports say.<\/p>\n

The gunfire erupted outside Walnut Park Elementary in Gadsden around 9:30 a.m. after the individual showed up and attempted to gain entry into vehicles and buildings, Etowah County Sheriff Jonathan Horton told WIAT.<\/p>\n

“I got a call from the principal, who\u2019s really distraught, and I really couldn\u2019t make out what was happening,” Tony Reddick, superintendent of Gadsden City Schools, told the station. “But I knew it was something pretty bad.”<\/p>\n

A school resource officer who belongs to the Rainbow City Police Department reportedly responded to the scene and called for backup. The individual \u2013 who has not been identified — was shot after a physical altercation ensued, according to WIAT, citing police.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

North Carolina man dies after shootout with officers<\/strong><\/p>\n

A suspect was fatally wounded in a shootout with a trooper and a deputy along a highway in western North Carolina, investigators said.<\/p>\n

Authorities were called to a report of a crash involving an overturned vehicle and an armed man on a highway in Caldwell County on Sunday afternoon, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said in a news release.<\/p>\n

Officials said the suspect fired at the deputy and trooper who arrived on the scene, and both officers returned fire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
