Man dies after exchanging gunfire with Davenport police officer<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nOne man has died after exchanging gunfire with Davenport police early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

Officers responded around 12:50 a.m. to a report of a man tampering with an air conditioning unit outside a Casey’s convenience store in the 1600 block of West 53rd Street, according to a news release from the Davenport Police Department.<\/p>\n

An officer made contact with the man and determined he had outstanding warrants for his arrest; a “physical confrontation ensued,” according to the release, which said gunshots were exchanged between the man and the officer.<\/p>\n

The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the release said, and the officer sustained injuries during the confrontation that were not life-threatening.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAn early morning home invasion ended in the fatal shooting of the suspect on Detroit’s west side.<\/p>\n

Homeowner Maiso Jackson has lived in his home for 20 years, and he\u2019s owned his gun for the last eight. He’s taken lessons on how to handle that firearm. Early this morning, that training was put into action.<\/p>\n

“I had to do what I had to do, to save my life,” he said.<\/p>\n

Maiso Jackson awoke around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to a man pounding on his door and yelling. Parts of the encounter was captured on his Ring doorbell camera at his home on Salem Street on Detroit\u2019s west side.<\/p>\n

“(He was) talking about how someone owed him money, I said no one here owes you money,” Jackson said. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”<\/p>\n

Jackson says he tried to reason with him from inside his house.<\/p>\n

“He wouldn\u2019t leave, so I dialed 911,” he said.<\/p>\n

While they waited for police he says things escalated.<\/p>\n

“Then he went around the window here and busted that window out,” Jackson said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
