Amid self-defense claims, state drops murder charge in Riverview battered spouse case<\/strong>
\nAttorneys for Sabrina Hendley said she was an abuse victim and feared her husband\u2019s escalating afggression when she shot him in their Riverview home.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nTAMPA \u2014 State prosecutors dropped a murder charge Thursday against Sabrina Hendley, who claimed she was defending herself amid a drunken quarrel with an abusive husband when she shot him four years ago in their Riverview home.<\/p>\n

After an \u201cextensive review\u201d of the case, prosecutors determined that they could not refute Hendley\u2019s self-defense claim, and that the charges should be dismissed, according to a memo from the office of Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren.<\/p>\n

It was a remarkable conclusion to a complicated case that had been fiercely contested since 2018.<\/p>\n

Just last year, prosecutors convinced a judge after a lengthy hearing that Hendley was not entitled to immunity under Florida\u2019s stand your ground law. But in the months since, the state consulted experts on domestic violence, whose input led them to conclude that the charges should be dismissed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clare police investigating home invasion, where homeowner shot and killed alleged intruder<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCLARE, Mich. (WJRT) – The Clare Police Chief is one of the witnesses of a shooting, as an alleged suspect in a home invasion is shot by the homeowner.<\/p>\n

It was around six this morning in Clare when a 911 call was made from a homeowner saying someone broke into his house.<\/p>\n

The home is attached to a popular business in the city and police say they got to the home in about two minutes.<\/p>\n

Clare Police Chief David Saad was just getting to work when the 911 call went out that there was a home invasion in progress on McEwan Street.<\/p>\n

McEwan Street runs through the heart of the city of Clare, population of about 3,200<\/p>\n

It was six o’clock in the morning when police chief David Saad was just getting to work and was called to this home for a reported break-in.<\/p>\n

“My officer and I arrived at the scene, it was six am so I was just coming into service as well as him, when we responded down over here, we received the call, and as we were making entry into the residence that’s when the shots went off,” says Saad.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
