Homeowners should shoot burglars to \u2018save taxpayer\u2019s money,\u2019 Florida sheriff says<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHomeowners in the Florida Panhandle are being encouraged by one sheriff to shoot burglars who enter their homes.<\/p>\n

The comments by Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson come after deputies took into custody a \u201cfrequent flyer\u201d who is accused of breaking into several homes on Wednesday, April 20. Brandon J. Harris, who Johnson said has been arrested 17 times, faces seven charges after his most recent arrest.<\/p>\n

Deputies set up a perimeter in the Pace neighborhood when multiple people called about a suspicious person, Johnson said. About 40 minutes after the first call went out, a homeowner shot at Harris, who continued to run throughout the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The sheriff said Harris was caught when he jumped out of a window of a home\u2019s bedroom.<\/p>\n

The homeowner who shot at Harris has not come forward, Johnson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess they think they did something wrong, which they did not,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cIf somebody is breaking into your house, you\u2019re more than welcome to shoot at them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do actually.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAn 80-year-old Michigan man was released from police custody after it was determined he acted in self-defense when he fatally shot an armed man who intended to rob his home Thursday, police said.<\/p>\n

The elderly man sprung into action to defend himself and his belongings after a 31-year-old armed intruder entered the Flint Township residence just before 9 p.m., WNEM-TV reported.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
