\nA Middleborough teen who woke up to a break-in at her home Friday morning armed herself with two kitchen knives and chased away a burglar who police say is a career criminal.<\/p>\n

Avery Cormier, 14, who was home from school on the first day of spring vacation, heard noises in her Spruce Street home after the man broke in through a first-floor window and began stealing items, apparently unaware anyone was home.<\/p>\n

Avery ran downstairs, grabbed the steak knives and confronted the burglar, who dropped his stolen items, police and the teen\u2019s mother, Dianne Tautkus, said.<\/p>\n

\u201c[She] started screaming at him: \u2018Get the \u2018F\u2019 out of my house! You don\u2019t belong here. This is my house,\u2019\u201d Tautkus told Boston 25 News. \u201cHe turned around and looked at her, and Avery said he looked so shocked and scared, like, \u2018What?\u2019 Here\u2019s this kid there with two knives. And he kind of slinked away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quick-thinking Avery watched the burglar flee and pulled out her cell phone, recording the pick-up truck back out of the driveway.<\/p>\n

She then made an emotional 911 call, telling dispatchers what had happened and providing the information she had on the burglar.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nThe victim of an attempted carjacking in New Orleans shot at two suspects involved, according to local reports.<\/p>\n

The two 17-year-old suspects approached the 48-year-old victim before 7 p.m. Thursday outside a design studio on Louisa Street. The teenage suspects allegedly held the victim at gunpoint while demanding he hand over his property, FOX 8 New Orleans reported, citing a law enforcement source.<\/p>\n

The victim threw his car keys toward the suspects before ducking behind a nearby vehicle and shooting one of the suspects, as NOLA.com initially reported.<\/p>\n

One suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the neck as a result, and the second suspect drove the first to Tulane Medical Center, where authorities recovered their two guns, one of which was determined to be stolen, FOX 8 reported.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
