Three Kansas deputies were shot Friday during a gunfire exchange and a female suspect is dead, authorities said. <\/p>\n

The shooting occurred around U.S. Highway 77 and 122nd Road just outside of Wichita. The deputies initially responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle when gunfire was exchanged, Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti told reporters at the scene, according to video footage taken by KNS News. <\/p>\n

“We just don’t know at this point the events that led up to it (the shooting) other than the vehicle was called in as suspicious,” he said. “Deputies were following that lead and that’s when this occurred.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Attorney says Kalamazoo County man acquitted of shooting acted in self-defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man acquitted of a shooting was acting in self-defense, his attorney says.<\/p>\n

Dondrell Servant, 21, was convicted March 31 by a jury for one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court. He was acquitted of assault with intent to murder and felony firearms.<\/p>\n

The shooting was in self-defense, defense attorney Kiana Garrity told MLive. Servant, then 20, had met up with someone he knew from childhood to smoke marijuana on April 29, 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe testimony at trial was that they were actually trying to rob Mr. Servant, (who) basically acted in self-defense when he was confronted with a deadly weapon, and that\u2019s why the jury acquitted him,\u201d co-counsel John Anderegg said.<\/p>\n

The then-17-year-old male had also brought a friend, Garrity said.<\/p>\n

Servant brought a gun to protect himself because the teenager had told him people were out to get him, Garrity said.<\/p>\n

The teenager then pointed a gun with a green laser in Servant\u2019s face, trying to rob him, Garrity said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
