Well, this one\u2019s a first – at least for me.<\/p>\n
Seems that the Army\u2019s former Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (DCSLOG) \u2013 MG (then LTG) Duane Gamble \u2013 has been relieved of duties, reverted to his previous rank of MG, and received a GOMOR.\u00a0 This was the end result of a Department of the Army Inspector General (DAIG) investigation into allegations of misconduct first made in September 2020.<\/p>\n
Allegations of racial discrimination against Gamble were apparently made.\u00a0 While those allegations were not substantiated, the IG found that Gamble had \u201cdisplayed counterproductive leadership\u201d.<\/p>\n
On relief from his position as DCSLOG, Gamble reverted to his prior rank of MG; he has apparently applied for retirement.\u00a0 Since he did not complete the normal 3 years TIG required to retire as a LTG, it will be up to DA and\/or the SECDEF to determine Gamble’s retired grade.\u00a0 (The SECDEF can determine that he \u201cserved successfully\u201d and waive the TIG retirement, but in that event will need to notify the POTUS and Congress of his intent to do so and rational for same.\u00a0 My guess is that Gamble retires as a MG.)<\/p>\n
More info on this case (though fairly short on specifics) can be found in this Army Times article<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n The last time an Army LTG was fired and demoted was in 2015.\u00a0 In that case, in addition to other misconduct an IG investigation found some interesting charges from overseas strip clubs on the government credit card account belonging to the SECDEF\u2019s senior military aide<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 (Yes, on occasion apparently even some GOs can get pretty stupid when it comes to using their government credit card.)<\/p>\n But the individual relieved and demoted in 2015 wasn\u2019t one of the Army Staff (ARSTAFF) primaries.\u00a0 This is the first time I can remember an ARSTAFF primary being relieved of duty and demoted.<\/p>\n Sheesh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
