Teen called 911 before troopers shot break-in suspect<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA teen girl locked herself in her bedroom and called 911 when a man broke into her house Monday afternoon. Responding troopers shot and killed the intruder, Michigan State Police say.<\/p>\n

The man killed was identified by MSP on Tuesday as Joseph Miller, 37, of Muskegon.<\/p>\n

The break-in happened around 2:40 p.m. Monday on Sugaridge Drive near West River Road in Laketon Township, north of Muskegon. MSP said the teen daughter of the homeowner called 911.<\/p>\n

In a recording of the call, the girl can be heard telling a dispatcher that there was a strange man in her backyard, then that he was in the home, then that he was in the next room.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No charges brought in August 2021 gunshot death<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSheridan County and Prosecuting Attorney Dianna Bennett will not pursue charges against a man who fatally shot Leonard Laszlo, 46, in August 2021. Laszlo\u2019s death, law enforcement officials said, was determined to be the result of reasonable self-defense. <\/p>\n

Sheridan County law enforcement officials received reports of a shooting in the Bighorn Mountains shortly after midnight Aug. 5, 2021, Sheridan County Sheriff Allen Thompson said in a press release shortly after the incident. <\/p>\n

Upon arrival on the scene, deputies found Laszlo dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Undersheriff Levi Dominguez said. Two eyewitnesses to the shooting and the shooter were also present at the scene. All three were seasonal workers in the Bighorns, cooperated with the Sheridan County Sheriff\u2019s Office\u2019s investigation and provided statements describing the incident.<\/p>\n

The witnesses explained the shooting, which took place at the shooter\u2019s residence, was the result of an altercation between Laszlo and the shooter, in which Laszlo was the aggressor, Dominguez said. After Laszlo pursued the shooter into the residence\u2019s back bedroom \u2014 continuing to escalate the situation \u2014 the shooter fired a single shot from a handgun, resulting in Laszlo\u2019s death. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
