Sioux Falls Police shoot and kill person armed with knife on Thursday, chief Thum says<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nOne person was shot and killed by police Thursday night after the person confronted responding officers with a knife, police announced during Friday morning’s police briefing.<\/p>\n

Sioux Falls Police were called to the scene around 10:45 p.m. to make a welfare check on an individual at the 1900 block of West Sixth Street, Chief Jon Thum said. The subject was armed with a knife and “confronted” the officers on scene.<\/p>\n

De-escalation tactics were used including verbal warnings, non-lethal tools such as a taser and a 40 mm foam projectile fired from a non-lethal impact round launcher, Thum said.<\/p>\n

Those were unsuccessful, Thum said. Then a “physical altercation” happened and one officer fired their gun at the subject. The subject was taken to the hospital and later died from their wounds.<\/p>\n

Thum wouldn’t give any information about the victim, including age or gender.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sarasota County deputy fatally shoots armed man during eviction, Sheriff says<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported a deputy-related shooting in Sarasota on Friday that led to the death of a 58-year-old man.<\/p>\n

The man was shot by a Sarasota County deputy at the Palm Place Condominium at 755 S. Palm Ave.<\/p>\n

Sheriff’s spokesperson Kaitlyn Perez said three deputies were attempting to evict the man when he armed himself with a knife and was shot by one of the deputies.<\/p>\n

The man had been living in the apartment with the owner for 11 years. After the owner died, the man continued to live there without paying rent, authorities said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Homeowner shoots 16-year-old intruder on Johnston Street in Akron<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA homeowner shot a teen who allegedly forced his way into his home on Johnston Street Tuesday in Akron, police said.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to a call about a home invasion shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Johnston Street.<\/p>\n

A 16-year-old boy was found inside home with a gunshot wound. The 74-year-old homeowner told police that the teen forced his way into the home, and at one point, the homeowner confronted the teen and shot him multiple times.<\/p>\n

“He headed to the basement and I pumped two into him there,” said James Lowgher. “He went down the steps that way and I got him a third time I hope.”<\/p>\n

“He didn’t belong here and I knew damn well after he came through the door like that, I can shoot him,” said Lowgher.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
