‘He was desperate’: Homeowner speaks out after shooting, killing man during attempted home invasion<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nBYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. \u2014 A Middleville man is dead after deputies say he tried to break into a home in Kent County and was shot by the homeowner.<\/p>\n

The Kent County Sheriff\u2019s Office says the 39-year-old suspect attempted to force himself inside of a home along 108th Street SW near Wilson Avenue in Byron Township just after midnight on Thursday.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when the sheriff\u2019s office says that\u2019s when the homeowner shot and killed him.<\/p>\n

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Verdict reached in Valley murder trial: Not guilty<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSTAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – After hours of testimony and over 30 pieces of evidence, the three-day trial for a Staunton murder ended.<\/p>\n

The jury found Daniel David Mead not guilty in the death of Bradley Maurice. The jury was excused for deliberation Wednesday, March 30 around 5:30 p.m. They returned with a verdict around 8:50 p.m.<\/p>\n

Mead had been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Maurice. Maurice died on June 24, 2020 at Spring Hill Apartments in Staunton.<\/p>\n

The prosecutors argued there was premeditation, malice, and intent. Murder without premeditation would make it second-degree murder. No malice would make it manslaughter. For Mead to be found not guilty, the jury had to believe he was acting solely in self-defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
