ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) \u2014 One person is dead and two others were rescued after a U.S. Navy E2-D Hawkeye crashed just north of Chincoteague Island in Accomack County on Wednesday night, according to military officials.<\/p>\n

Lt. Cmdr. Rob Myers, a public affairs officer with Naval Air Force Atlantic, said the plane was doing a routine exercise when it went down around 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Three people were on board in total. Two injured people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and one was found dead in the aircraft, Myers said.<\/p>\n

The plane is based out of Naval Station Norfolk and assigned to an East Coast Airborne Command and Control Squadron.<\/p>\n

Naval Air Force Atlantic Public Affairs said the two crewmembers have injuries that aren\u2019t considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n

The name of the deceased crew member will be released once next of kin is notified and the Navy says the incident is under investigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The normal Hawkeye tactical crew complement is five, so this was likely a pilot training flight with a minimum crew. Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and a speedy recovery for the survivors.<\/p>\n
