Fresno detective shoots, kills man who police say attacked him at department headquarters<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA Fresno detective on Tuesday shot and killed a man who he said had assaulted him at police headquarters, officials said.<\/p>\n

The incident was reported around 11:45 a.m. at the Fresno Police Department headquarters at 2323 Mariposa Street.<\/p>\n

The man assaulted the detective in his office before the detective shot him with his firearm, Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama said in a Facebook Live update.<\/p>\n

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The detective suffered “lacerations on the forehead and part of his neck,” Balderrama said, and was recovering at a hospital.<\/p>\n

Balderrama said the detective was hit in the head and neck area by an undisclosed object.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nGreenwood police say they don’t know why Monica Vaught led pursuing officers to the department’s parking lot or why she twice barreled toward them in her vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not know why she came to the police department at this time,\u201d Greenwood Police Chief James Ison told reporters on Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m hoping throughout the course of the investigation we can shed a little light on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she won’t be able to tell them.<\/p>\n

Four Greenwood officers opened fire on the vehicle Vaught was driving, fatally wounding the 49-year-old Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The police shooting, a relatively rare occurrence in Greenwood, is under an internal and criminal investigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
