Police arrested a Columbia man after arriving at the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision, which took place in the 3300 block of Brown Station Road Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
According to public information officer Jeff Pitts at the scene, Timothy S. Ellis was driving a black Jeep Cherokee. Columbia police officers attempted to make a traffic stop around Paris and Mexico Gravel roads; the driver initially stopped, then drove away at “a high rate of speed,” according to a subsequent news release Saturday.<\/p>\n
Police suspended any pursuit before the driver of the northbound vehicle struck an elderly couple driving southbound on Brown Station Road head-on. The driver accidentally shot himself in the leg while leaving the accident scene on foot, the release said. Initial reports said the driver shot himself in the groin area.<\/p>\n
Police apprehended Ellis a short distance away and gave medical assistance until emergency services arrived, the release noted.<\/p>\n
Ellis, 35, was arrested for first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with a shots-fired incident Feb. 16 on Talon Drive, the release stated. Additionally, he was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, trafficking narcotics and distribution of narcotics related to Friday’s incident.<\/p>\n
The couple in the other vehicle were both transported to a Columbia hospital, and were considered in stable condition at the time, according to the release. Ellis was transported to an area hospital for surgery stemming from his gunshot wound; Saturday’s release said he would be released into police custody and taken to Boone County Jail after being discharged from the hospital.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Raleigh Police Department officer charged with dealing drugs while on duty, US attorney says<\/h3>\n
A Raleigh Police Department officer has been charged with distributing cocaine while on the job, according to US Attorney Michael Easley Jr.<\/p>\n
Keven Rodriguez, 33, was arrested Wednesday and charged with distribution of cocaine and possession of a firearm in relation to the former crime.<\/p>\n
Investigators said two sources told Raleigh Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration that Rodriguez was selling controlled substances in Raleigh while serving as a police officer.<\/p>\n
A confidential informant met Rodriguez on Jan. 24 in the 1800 block of Capital Boulevard at an abandoned former auto dealership, Rodriguez was a sworn RPD officer at the time. He arrived at the meeting location in his patrol car, in uniform, while carrying his service weapon, arrest documents show.<\/p>\n
The informant was equipped with audio and video recording devices, authorities said.<\/p>\n
According to federal investigators, the source gave Rodriguez $2,600 in exchange for a substance later confirmed by lab tests to be approximately 56 grams of cocaine.<\/p>\n
“An on-duty Raleigh police department officer, in his police cruiser, with his gun, dealt drugs,” Easley summarized.<\/p>\n
RPD Chief Estella Patterson said the arrest is a disappointment to her and her team but shows her commitment to holding officers and herself to high standards of conduct.<\/p>\n
“While I am disturbed by today’s events, I will not allow the actions of one to define the Raleigh Police Department,” Patterson said. “I will continue to hold myself and officers accountable to the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty.”<\/p>\n
Patterson said Rodriguez has been with RPD since July 30, 2018. He is currently on administrative leave without pay.<\/p>\n
Rodriguez had a first appearance Thursday on the charges.<\/p>\n
He faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years in prison if convicted, and a maximum of life in prison.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A Phelan man was arrested Friday on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a front yard and possessing thousands of pounds of marijuana, authorities reported Saturday.<\/p>\n
Jose Meza-Gomez, 47, was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto and is being held on $50,000 bail, San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s booking records show.<\/p>\n
At 12:20 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 13600 block of Wilson Ranch Road in Phelan, the Victor Valley Sheriff\u2019s Station reported.<\/p>\n
The address is located near the California Aqueduct and south of State Route 18\/Palmdale Road.<\/p>\n
During that time, deputies received information that a man, later identified as Meza-Gomez, was shooting a firearm from the front yard of his residence, the sheriff\u2019s report said.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, deputies located multiple fired cartridge cases from multiple caliber weapons at the home, where occupants were detained and a search warrant was written, according to sheriff\u2019s officials.<\/p>\n
Upon service of the warrant, an AR-15 rifle, a handgun, rifle ammunition and approximately 2,400 pounds of processed marijuana were found inside the residence, the sheriff\u2019s report said.<\/p>\n
The Narcotics Division\u2019s Marijuana Team responded to assist in the investigation and with the destruction of the marijuana. Meza-Gomez was arrested and booked.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Las Vegas police officer facing charges in casino robbery<\/h3>\n
Las Vegas police are investigating one of their own officers for the robbery at a casino Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
Authorities say they responded to the Rio hotel-casino in the 4100 block of South Valley View Boulevard at about 7 a.m. with reports of a robbery.<\/p>\n
Security at the casino detained the suspect, who was later identified as off-duty officer Caleb Rogers, 33.<\/p>\n
Rogers was arrested and booked on charges including burglary with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n
Rogers has been employed with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2015. He will be placed on suspension of police powers without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As Russia Wages War, US Army Trains Officers on Gender Identity<\/h3>\n

While Russia wages a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. Army is putting its soldiers through training on gender pronouns and coaching officers on when to offer soldiers gender transition surgery, according to an official military presentation on the subject obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.<\/p>\n
The mandatory presentation, “Policy on the Military Service of Transgender Persons and Persons with Gender Dysphoria,” was given to officers earlier this month along with instructions for them to train their subordinates on the material. Portions of the presentation were provided to the Free Beacon by a whistleblower who was ordered to undergo the training as a high-ranking officer in the Army Special Forces.<\/p>\n
An Army spokesman confirmed to the Free Beacon that the slides in question are part of “mandatory training” and come from an official program “used to train Army personnel on the recent changes to the DoD and Army transgender service policy.” All Army personnel, from soldiers to commanders and supervisors, are required to participate in the training by Sept. 30, 2022, according to the spokesman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Buttigieg, it would be \u201cgalloping after permanent solutions to immediate short term problems.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anchor Stephanie Ruhle said, \u201cI want to stay on gas for another moment. You\u2019re absolutely right, the president does not set the price of gas, but he can influence it. And while releasing some strategic reserves matters, given how much has been released, it is really just a drop in the bucket. Are there things, and I realize this is controversial, it has huge environmental impacts, could the president possibly consider authorizing the Keystone Pipeline? Discussing his new book \u201cAllow Me to Retort: A Black Guy\u2019s Guide to the Constitution,\u201d Mystal said, \u201cRepublicans are obviously trying to manipulate those laws, particularly the rights of minorities, women, and the LGBTQ communities, and I explain it in ways we can understand so we can fight them.\u201d<\/p>\n
