Man shot at Collinsville officers before he was fatally shot, state police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA 45-year-old East Carondelet man fired shots at Collinsville Police officers before they returned fire and fatally shot him on Wednesday night, Illinois State Police said Thursday.<\/p>\n

Police identified the man who died as Kevin C. Steinhauer.<\/p>\n

Collinsville officers were called to the 100 block of Arnold Street at about 8:36 p.m. Wednesday for a reported home invasion, Illinois State Police said in a news release.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they saw Steinhauer inside the residence with a firearm.\u201cReportedly, after repeated orders from the officers to drop the weapon, Steinhauer opened the door and fired at the officers,\u201d the release stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Judge throws out murder case in Harter shooting death<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Superior Court judge has ruled that Luther Harter\u2019s nephew and his wife are immune from prosecution in Harter\u2019s shooting death.<\/p>\n

In an order released this week, Judge Robert Guy determined that \u201ca preponderance of the evidence\u201d shows that Thomas Harter and Michelle Roberts were acting in self-defense when they shot at Luther Harter in an altercation off Penholloway Road on Nov. 20, 2018.<\/p>\n

Thomas Harter and Roberts were subsequently indicted for felony murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter.<\/p>\n

Guy was ruling on motions heard in a pretrial hearing Oct. 14-15 of last year.<\/p>\n

The motions were based on Official Code of Georgia Annotated Sections 16-3-24.2 and 16-3-21 which grant immunity from prosecution for use of deadly force in cases where someone \u201creasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury to himself or herself or a third person or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
