\nMajor General Andrei Sukhovetsky<\/em><\/p>\n

Andrei Sukhovetsky was the commanding general of the Russian 7th Airborne Division and a deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army. So far, he is the most senior Russian figure to have died in the conflict.<\/p>\n

Sukhovetsky graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School in 1995. He began his career as a platoon commander, eventually climbing up to the chief of staff of the Guards airborne assault unit.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian defense forces killed Russian Maj. Gen. Andrei Sukhovetsky in combat earlier this week, according to Ukrainian officials and Russian media.<\/p>\n

The circumstances of the 47-year-old\u2019s death were not immediately clear, but the Kremlin-backed Pravda said he was killed \u201cduring a special operation in Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Russia\u2019s state-owned TASS news agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Sukhovetsky deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District last year. He was also the head of the 7th Airborne Division, had served in Syria and received two commendations for bravery from the Kremlin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is, we killed him,\u201d Volodymyr Omelyan, Ukraine\u2019s former minister of infrastructure who has joined the militia in Kyiv, told Fox News Digital Thursday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
