To prove that they’re serious when Biden says he won’t send American troops into Ukraine to help American citizens (or for that matter Ukraine itself), SECDEF Austin has ordered the handful of troops we have in Ukraine to get out. They’re not just telegraphing that Putin should invade Ukraine, they’re standing at the border in traffic vests waving them in.<\/p>\n

The 160 soldiers of the Florida National Guard deployed to Ukraine since November have been ordered by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to leave Ukraine amid increasing concern of a Russian attack, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.<\/p>\n

The soldiers, assigned to the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, have been ordered to reposition elsewhere in Europe, according to Kirby in a media release. They have been advising and mentoring Ukrainian forces as part of Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Austin made this decision \u201cout of an abundance of caution \u2014 with the safety and security of our personnel foremost in mind \u2014 and informed by the State Department\u2019s guidance on U.S. personnel in Ukraine,\u201d according to the media release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis repositioning does not signify a change in our determination to support Ukraine\u2019s Armed Forces, but will provide flexibility in assuring allies and deterring aggression,\u201d the release states.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
