Reno police: Intruder killed in self defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nRENO, Nev. (KOLO) -A man is dead and the Reno Police Department said it appears a homeowner killed him in self defense.
\nIt happened Saturday about 9:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of Idlewild Drive near Idlewild Park.<\/p>\n

Police said the homeowner reported having shot an intruder. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, along with the homeowner and a witness.<\/p>\n

Robbery\/homicide detectives took over the investigation.<\/p>\n

Many neighbors described the area as quiet and were surprised to hear about the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone here usually has each other\u2019s backs too,\u201d said Adam Thompson. \u201cIt\u2019s a very communal neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKind of shocked because that usually doesn\u2019t happen in this neighborhood at all, \u201dsaid Joe Malfa, a nearby resident since 1980.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe homeowner in this incident is cooperating with the investigation,\u201d police said in a statement. \u201cAt this time an arrest will not be made as this appears to be in defense of himself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An Evansville family is still shaken after they say a man tried to break into their apartment over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Police responded to reports of a man with a gun breaking into an apartment in the 400 block of Kimber Lane on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The woman who lives at the apartment agreed to talk to us as long as we hide her identity. She says her family was spending the day together when she heard a man trying to break in.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy kids were screaming. I had three kids in the house screaming. We tried to tell him to stop beating on the door, and he didn\u2019t listen,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

She says the man never got into the apartment, but he did break several windows and threatened to shoot her. So she ran upstairs and got her fianc\u00e9.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
