Previously, only currently serving members, retirees, service-connected disabled veterans and their dependents with ID cards could use it year-round. Other veterans could only use it around certain holidays.<\/li>\n<li>The discount can now be used for Home Depot online purchases; previously it was limited to in-store purchases.<\/li>\n<li>There are stricter verification requirements. Rather than showing your ID card at checkout, or some proof of other veteran status each time, you now must be verified through SheerID. That\u2019s a one-time process, where you\u2019ll create an account that will allow the discount to be automatically applied when shopping online, and a QR code to be scanned in-store at checkout. This will make it easier to verify veterans, who don\u2019t always have an ID card. It\u2019s not a charge card.<\/li>\n<li>Spouses of these currently serving and veteran service members are eligible too, but the spouse and veteran must have separate personal accounts in order to each use the discount.<\/li>\n<li>Eligible participants each have a maximum $400 discount that can be applied each year to eligible purchases of up to $4,000, according to the Home Depot website. The discount resets each calendar year. Home Depot officials confirmed to Military Times that these rules mean that a couple would have in effect up to $800 a year discount on $8,000 in purchases.<\/li>\n<li>To get the discount, those eligible must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/military\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">create an account\u00a0<\/a>and verify their eligibility through Sheer ID, in a simple process that takes about five minutes. Once you\u2019re verified, to use the discount online, you\u2019ll log in to your Home Depot account on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/homedepot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HomeDepot.com<\/a>, and the military discount will be automatically applied to eligible items during checkout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The military discount program is now open year-round to all veterans with other-than-dishonorable discharges.&#8221;\u00a0 This should be good news for posers in that they don&#8217;t have to lie to get that discount.\u00a0 Your money&#8217;s good at Home Depot even if you were a deserter.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, it is good business for the Home Depot to do this and oddly enough may cut down on embellishment.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts such as <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.id.me\/\">ID.me<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheerid.com\/shoppers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheer ID<\/a> are great for discounts if you have served in the military or are still serving.\u00a0 I love <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yeti.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yeti<\/a> products so the ID.me discounts save me some money.<\/p>\n<p><em>Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Home Depot, ID.me, Sheer ID or Yeti.\u00a0 Any references or implied endorsements of said products and\/or companies are purely personal opinions and I am not paid for mentioning them.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Home Depot has just expanded its program for veteran discounts.
