Yet more former flag officers are “sounding the alarm” that the military might overthrow the US government. Calling the 6 Jan 2021 riot an “insurrection” and an attempted coup. The generals write at the Washington Post<\/a>;<\/p>\n

As we approach the first anniversary of the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, we \u2014 all of us former senior military officials \u2014 are increasingly concerned about the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election and the potential for lethal chaos inside our military, which would put all Americans at severe risk.<\/p>\n

In short: We are chilled to our bones at the thought of a coup succeeding next time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This presupposes that one believes what happened last year was an actual attempt at a coup. Only the most deranged, disconnected from reality leftists make such a claim. Even saying it was an “insurrection” seems a stretch, but I’ll give them it at least meets the definition. The BLM\/Antifa “Summer of Love” was an insurrection, but I wouldn’t call it a coup attempt.<\/p>\n

Recently, and perhaps more worrying, Brig. Gen. Thomas Mancino, the commanding general of the Oklahoma National Guard, refused an order from President Biden mandating that all National Guard members be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Mancino claimed that while the Oklahoma Guard is not federally mobilized, his commander in chief is the Republican governor of the state, not the president.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, the generals are again showing their ignorance. Since they were flag officers of the US Army, I’ll assume this is intentional and not because of inadequate training and education.<\/p>\n

The National Guard falls under both federal and state control, with the primary control resting with the state. When not activated to federal duty, the Guard of a state falls under the authority of the governor. It’s a complicated relationship, as during regular drill weekends and annual training the Guard is paid by the federal government, and thus is arguably under their authority and control.<\/p>\n

However the whole reason for the National Guard is to have a state controlled military force, as it makes up part of the militia as defined in the Constitution and federal law. The federal government, after the Civil War and the Spanish-American War created the current National Guard system to facilitate better equipment, better training, and standardized doctrine between the organized militias (previously wholly state funded) and the standing US Army.<\/p>\n

NPR has an interview with MG Eaton<\/a>. You might recall Eaton from his time in the media shit talking Presidents G.W. Bush and Trump or his association with the far-leftist VoteVets.org campaign. Here’s all you need to know about the man’s opinion;<\/p>\n

I’m a huge fan of Secretary [of Defense Lloyd] Austin, a huge fan of the team that he has put together and the uniformed military under [Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark] Milley. They’re just superb. And I am confident that the best men and women in the U.S. and in our military will be outstanding. I just don’t want the doubt that has compromised or infected the greater population of the United States to infect our military.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I do agree with the general when he says;<\/p>\n

I had a conversation with somebody about my age, and we were talking about civics lessons, liberal arts education and the development of the philosophical underpinnings of the U.S. Constitution. And I believe that bears a reteach to make sure that each and every 18-year-old American truly understands the Constitution of the United States, how we got there, how we developed it and what our forefathers wanted us to understand years down the road. That’s an important bit of education that I think that we need to readdress.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But then he talks about conducting a “war-game” to plan out a response to a 6 Jan-style incident. Which doesn’t sound ominous at all, right?<\/p>\n

Back to the opinion piece at WaPo, the generals spell out a plan for re-education of the troops to ensure they understand “unity of command” and they call for stepped up spying on our own troops and to combat “misinformation”. In sum, the generals’ message is:<\/p>\n

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY<\/p>\n

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH<\/p>\n

How about we return to the time when the military stayed out of politics? Time was when a general started to get into politics, he was sent packing (MacArthur), the Revolt of the Admirals, and\/or court martialed (Mitchell).<\/p>\n
