Jim Thompson<\/strong><\/p>\n EGLIN AFB \u2014 Two recent weapons tests connected to Eglin Air Force Base produced a mixed record for ongoing Air Force weapons development.<\/p>\n On Dec. 15, the service’s efforts to develop an air-launched hypersonic missile were dealt yet another setback. The next day, however, the in-flight retargeting of a cruise missile was successfully demonstrated over the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range in the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n In the Dec. 15 test of the AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) \u2014 which is being designed to fly at multiple times the speed of sound to give opposing forces little or no time to react \u2014 the launch sequence was aborted for unknown reasons and the test vehicle never left the B-52H Stratofortress bomber to which it was attached.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n How many ft-lbs on those sway braces, Ordie?
