Our favorite sitting US Senator who embellishes a non-existent war record, Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who we lovingly refer to around these parts as “Da Nang Dick, appeared the other day at an awards service for a group of communists.<\/p>\n

Senator Richard Blumenthal(D-Conn.) said he was \u201cexcited and proud\u201d to help the Connecticut Communist Party celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party USA over the weekend.<\/p>\n

On Saturday,\u00a0the Connecticut People\u2019s World Committee (CPWC)<\/a>\u00a0presented its annual \u201cAmistad Awards\u201d to State Sen. Julie Kushner, D-Danbury, Pastor Rodney Wade of Waterbury and SEIU activist Azucena Santiago at a union hall in New Haven. (Video of the event\u00a0here.)\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Blumenthal was the surprise guest to help celebrate the occasion, and share his appreciation of the awardees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really excited and honored to be with you today and share in this remarkable occasion,\u201d Blumenthal gushed after he was introduced.<\/p>\n

The awardees were \u201crecognized for their commitment to organizing priorities that address racial equity, climate change, voting rights, and the common good,\u201d said CPWC partners AFT Connecticut in a post about the awards. \u201cThey were also selected for fighting for the rights of essential\u2014and all, regardless of immigrations status\u2014workers during the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blumenthal stipulated that while one doesn\u2019t have \u201cto agree with anyone and everyone\u201d and every party, he was happy \u201cto honor the great tradition of activism and standing up for individual workers that is represented by the three honorees here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The senator had a very high opinion of the three leftists receiving the Communist award.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve known and worked with all of them. They are extraordinary examples of courage, grace under pressure, ferocious fighting for the rights or working people, and for Democracy,\u201d Blumenthal said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know we\u2019re looking back at past achievements, but I want to tell you that the fight ahead is even more challenging than almost anything we have encountered before because we are at a time when more than any other time in our history, we need to make \u2018good trouble\u2019 in the tradition of John Lewis,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Blumenthal told the attendees that the enemies of Communism (Republicans) are trying to \u201crestrict Democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur opponents are trying to restrict Democracy. They are threatening the right to vote in state after state, congressional district after district all around the country, and the John Lewis Voting rights Act,\u201d he complained. The senator called any restrictions on voting undemocratic, and vowed to fight against them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese fights ahead of us go to the core of the lifeblood of our Democracy,\u201d he said, adding that he was \u201cinspired today\u201d (at the Communist event) to redouble his own efforts to abolish the filibuster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blumenthal went on to tout the Build Back Better plan, $15 minimum wage, and the importance of re-electing \u201cDemocrats\u201d to Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to be working for in economic justice, in racial equity, in establishing a $15 minimum wage,\u201d Blumenthal said, \u201cand holding corporations accountable for the basic treatment of the American people. We need to look at our entire tax system, beginning with Build Back Better.\u201d<\/p>\n

He thanked his fellow travelers for helping him fight for \u201can equitable, fair America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Connecticut Communist Party is headquartered in New Haven and is run by long-time chairwoman Joelle Fishman, who also serves as chair of the CPUSA Political Action Commission,\u201d according to People\u2019s World.<\/p>\n
