Reality Winner (that’s her real birth name) did not live up to her father’s hope to be “a real winner” when she leaked top secret documents from her position as a NSA intel specialist. The Air Force linguist veteran recently gave an interview to 60 Minutes where she professed that she only violated the sacred trust placed in her by the American people on behalf of the American people. She professes that despite pleading guilty to federal espionage charges and serving for years in prison that she is not a traitor and “acted out of love for what this country stands for.” She and I have different views on what love of country means. Reality Winner, a former NSA contractor, tells Scott Pelley she leaked classified documents to the media to honor her pledge of service to the American people. Winner, who also served six years in the U.S. Air Force, spoke to Scott Pelley in her first television interview since being released from prison. She spent more than four years behind bars, the longest sentence ever served by a civilian accused of leaking information to the media.<\/p>\n

Winner was arrested in June 2017 after sending a top-secret National Security Agency report about Russian government hacking of the 2016 election to a news organization.<\/p>\n

She was the first leaker charged by the Trump administration’s Justice Department which used the Espionage Act to prosecute her. Winner pleaded guilty in 2018 and just recently completed her sentence. Under the terms of her plea agreement, she’s still not allowed to talk about the document she leaked or any of the top secret work she did while in the Air Force and as an NSA contractor. During Winner’s stint in the Air Force, she was awarded a commendation medal for “600 enemies killed in action.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As to that latter claim, apparently she never left Ft Meade.<\/a><\/p>\n

We met 30-year-old Reality Winner, at home in Texas, after four years behind bars. ‘Espionage’ seemed surprising for a woman who joined the Air Force at 19 and won the Air Force Commendation Medal, in 2016, for “600 enemies killed in action.” She did that as a linguist in a combat unit fighting secret missions.<\/p>\n

But her duty station was 7,000 miles away from those countries, at Fort Meade, Maryland.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This second report goes into more detail on her thought processes (or lack thereof). In 2017, at the height of the Russia Collusion Hoax, she heard the Orange Man give an interview in which he said the 2016 election tinkering attempts could have been China or someone else in addition to (or in place of) Russia. She’d seen top secret reports that identified Russia, which is what was widely and repeatedly reported on in the media and by countless members of Congress.
