On Sunday afternoon, 39-year-old Darrell E. Brooks Jr. while driving a speeding SUV, broke through the barricades blocking traffic access in downtown Waukesha for the city’s annual Christmas parade. This egregious act resulted in five dead and 40 injured.<\/p>\n

A single police officer fired in a vain attempt to stop the driver. Brooks’ 3,000-pound SUV then slammed into the back of a school marching band. More than 50 were hit and five ultimately died after he rammed through the people gathered for the festivities\u2014 and kept going.<\/p>\n

The worst part to a very bad day- Brooks never should have been there in the first place.<\/p>\n

Darrell Brooks has an active warrant in Nevada for violating the state’s sex crime law, authorities say<\/em><\/p>\n

Waukesha Christmas parade horror suspect Darrell E. Brooks Jr. made bail twice in Wisconsin this year despite having an active sex crime warrant out of Nevada and claiming to be indigent, court records show.<\/p>\n

Two separate judges freed him on low-cost bail, records show. First for $500 in February after allegedly shooting at his nephew the previous summer and again for $1,000 earlier this month after a woman accused him of punching her and running her over with the same SUV that allegedly plowed through Waukesha\u2019s Christmas parade, killing five and injuring 48.<\/p>\n

Brooks, who has battery charges and firearms offenses dating back to 1999, was convicted of statutory sexual seduction, a felony, in 2006 after having sex with a 15-year-old girl in Nevada. She became pregnant. He received three years of probation and became a registered sex offender.<\/p>\n

Then in 2016, Nevada authorities charged him again with violating the state\u2019s sex crime laws \u2013 and he allegedly skipped bail and fled the region. He is still the subject of an active warrant in connection with that case, authorities there said, and they believed him to be in Wisconsin but had no actionable intelligence about his whereabouts.<\/p>\n

But despite finding himself in custody in Wisconsin twice after that, he managed to avoid being turned over to Nevada investigators and reobtained his freedom both times before Waukesha police captured him Sunday evening following the deadly parade attack.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fear not, this time the progressive Waukesha District Attorney plans to set Mr. Brooks’ bail at an amount he\u2019ll have no chance of paying. <\/p>\n
