This story keeps getting weirder <\/a>by the day and it has changed yet again.<\/p>\n

The whereabouts of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford this past week just became a bit more curious, as if they hadn\u2019t already stirred quite a bit of chatter in his home state and beyond.<\/p>\n

Earlier this morning, Gina Smith, a reporter for The State newspaper in Columbia, S. C., acted on a tip and confronted the governor at the Atlanta airport as he deplaned from, uh, not the Appalachian Trail as his staff had finally disclosed on Monday night, but Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n

In a short interview, he told Ms. Smith that he didn\u2019t know why his staff said he was hiking, although he conceded that he had considered that activity as a way to take a break after a bruising legislative session ended last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I said \u2018no\u2019 I wanted to do something exotic,\u201d Mr. Sanford told Ms. Smith. \u201c\u2026 It\u2019s a great city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said he had been traveling alone. Ms. Smith said she asked him if he had been staying at a hotel, but he wouldn\u2019t answer her question. <\/p>\n

Update: Mr. Sanford\u2019s spokesman, Joel Sawyer, just sent out a notice saying the governor would hold a news conference at 2 p.m. in the Statehouse.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And it will no doubt change again at the news conference.<\/p>\n

I have a pretty good imagination but I can think of absolutely no good reason for all of this. At least any that could possibly salvage Sanford\u2019s political career. In fact he has made enough enemies on both sides in South Carolina that he might find himself booted from office.<\/p>\n

If a woman was involved, she had better be seriously HOT!<\/p>\n
