Suspect accused of shooting at officer, holding man at gunpoint in west Springfield before being shot by police<\/strong><\/p>\n

A suspect accused of firing shots at an officer, then holding a man at gunpoint Sunday afternoon is now hospitalized after he was shot by police in west Springfield.<\/p>\n

The suspect has been sent to a hospital with unknown injuries, while one officer was also sent to a hospital as a precaution. It\u2019s not believed that any officers suffered life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

No names have been released in the investigation. An investigation is underway into the shots fired by the suspect and an officer.<\/p>\n

The investigation started shortly after a situation at 1 p.m. Sunday. Police say an officer approached a suspect at the Kum & Go gas station on South Kansas Expressway and College Street. Then, the suspect fired shots at the officer and took off toward Lexington Avenue.<\/p>\n

Shortly after that, police say a resident in the 1800 block of West Elm Street called officers to inform them a man broke into her home and was holding her husband at gunpoint. After that call, at least 25 police and SWAT team cars responded to the situation around South Lexington Street.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clark County Sheriff\u2019s deputies shoot, kill suspect after chase<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nClark County Sheriff\u2019s deputies shot and killed an armed person after a traffic stop turned into a chase at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office says officers had \u201cprobable cause\u201d to arrest the person for assault with a handgun. They forced the fleeing car to stop near the intersection of Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 49th Street in Vancouver through a tactical maneuver.<\/p>\n

Officers or an officer shot the person after he or she exited the car, the sheriff\u2019s office said. The sheriff\u2019s office said the person was armed with a handgun and failed to comply with deputies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
