Dewey was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Korea. While being treated for injuries from a grenade which had exploded at his feet he pulled the corpsman treating him to safety, alerted his squad, and dove on the grenade. &#8220;Doc, I got it in my hip pocket!&#8221; He told the corpsman before the grenade exploded. The explosion lifted Dewey off the ground and inflicting &#8220;gaping shrapnel wounds throughout the lower part of his body.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eisenhower said he had &#8220;a body of steel,&#8221; and I can&#8217;t argue that. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2021\/10\/13\/made-of-steel-korean-war-vet-awarded-medal-of-honor-smothering-grenade-blast-dies-89.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Military.com has the full article<\/a>.
