Federal prosecutors won\u2019t seek charges against white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin last year<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nMADISON, WIS. \u2014 Federal prosecutors announced Friday that they won\u2019t file charges against a white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin last year \u2014 a shooting that sparked protests that led to the deaths of two men.<\/p>\n

Officer Rusten Sheskey shot Blake, who is Black, during a domestic disturbance in Kenosha in August 2020. The shooting left Blake paralyzed from the waist down and sparked several nights of protests, some of which turned violent. An Illinois man shot three people, killing two of them, during one of the demonstrations.<\/p>\n

State prosecutors decided not to file charges against Sheskey earlier this year after video showed that Blake, who was wanted on a felony warrant, was armed with a knife.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Department of Justice launched its own investigation days after the shooting. The agency announced Friday that a team of prosecutors from its Civil Rights Division and the U.S. attorney\u2019s office in Milwaukee reviewed police reports, witness statements, dispatch logs and videos of the incident, and determined there wasn\u2019t enough evidence to prove Sheskey willfully used excessive force or violated Blake\u2019s federal rights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Father shoots man to protect his daughter<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Georgia man is in the hospital after he was shot while allegedly attacking his girlfriend, and the woman\u2019s father is one who pulled the trigger. Officials with the Habersham County Sheriffs Office say they were called to home Wednesday evening on reports of a shooting, and when they arrived they found 26-year old Justin Rachal with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.<\/p>\n

According to deputies, 55-year old Cory Merchant was taken into custody for the shooting, but investigators soon determined that Merchant was acting to protect his daughter from an assault.<\/p>\n

After interviewing Merchant and his daughter, investigators determined Rachal had committed \u201cseveral acts of violence against the victim.\u201d They deemed the shooting \u201cjustified\u201d to protect both the victim and the young girl at the residence from further harm.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
