Florida deputy wounded, suspect killed during traffic stop, sheriff says<\/strong>
\nThe wounded officer is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Brevard County Sheriff.<\/em><\/p>\n

WEST MELBOURNE \u2014 A Florida deputy was wounded, and the man who shot him was killed during a traffic stop Monday afternoon, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The confrontation occurred around 1 p.m. on a West Melbourne street near Interstate 95, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a video posted on Facebook. The wounded deputy was expected to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n

A deputy pulled over a vehicle with three occupants and a two-month-old baby inside and was quickly joined by a second deputy, Ivey said. After a passenger in the back seat was asked the exit the vehicle, he pulled out a short-stock rifle and opened fire, striking one of the deputies in the leg, the sheriff said.<\/p>\n

Both deputies returned fire, Ivey said. The man eventually ran over to one of the deputies and began to hit him with the butt of the rifle. The other deputy fired multiple times at the man, killing him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAn armed Decatur homeowner held a burglary and hit-and-run suspect at gunpoint after he caught the fleeing man trying to break into his home, police report.<\/p>\n

A sworn affidavit from Decatur police said the homeowner cornered the 30-year-old suspect around 7 a.m. Friday as the man was trying to force his way into the house in the 2200 block of North Main Street through a window.<\/p>\n

\u201c(The homeowner) advised he held (the man) at gunpoint until officers arrived,\u201d said Officer Brian Allison.<\/p>\n

Police said the man had earlier fled from committing a burglary at South End Auto Plex, 1215 E. Prairie Ave. He had stolen a pickup truck from the business and then been involved in a severe vehicle collision at North Water Street and East Garfield Avenue, the force of the crash causing a victim in another vehicle to sustain a broken neck, according to police.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
