A small ray of sunshine in a bleak situation. Students from Afghanistan’s girls robotics team have been rescued out of that country.<\/p>\n

In a statement from the Digital Citizen Fund (DFC) and the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Afghan Girls Robotic Team have safely arrived in Doha, Qatar, from Kabul, Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

“The DCF, the team’s parent organization, is deeply grateful to the government of Qatar for their outstanding support, which included not only expediting the visa process but sending a plane after outbound flights from Afghanistan were repeatedly canceled.”<\/p>\n

Oklahoma mom of 11 rescues members of Afghan all-girls robotics team<\/h3>\n

An Oklahoma mother of 11 flew to the Mideast earlier this month to help rescue 10 members of the country\u2019s all-girls robotics team, and is hoping to save more as the Taliban takes power in Kabul.<\/p>\n

Allyson Reneau, a 60-year old Harvard graduate with a Masters degree in international relations and US space policy, took it upon herself to try and save members of the Afghan Girls Robotic Team, according to NBC.<\/p>\n

She flew into Qatar on Aug. 9 after making a \u201cHail Mary\u201d call to a former roommate at the US Embassy there to help get the girls from the advancing Taliban, known for their oppressive treatment of women.<\/p>\n

Reneau had been in contact with the team \u2014 made of girls ages 16 to 18 \u2014 since 2019 when she worked on the board of directors for Explore Mars and met the girls when they attended the organization\u2019s annual Humans to Mars conference.<\/p>\n

The team was hailed in Western media as the future of the war-ravaged country, as well as a shining example of how women\u2019s rights had improved after the US invaded following 9\/11.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The DCF had been working with Qatar since early August when it became clear that the Taliban would be overthrowing the government. French and British forces are currently conducting rescues of their citizens, multiple outlets report.<\/p>\n

If? The Dynamic Duo of Austin and Milley, and DOD press secretary John Kirby, a retired Navy rear admiral, have said the U.S. military does not know how many Americans remain in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, Kirby estimated that between 5,000 and 10,000 Americans were left in Kabul and the surrounding area. The White House, meanwhile, has estimated that 11,000 Americans remain in country. Other reports say the number could be as high as 20,000 souls.<\/p>\n
