Yesterday’s presser with the SECDEF and Chairman JCS could have gone worse. I’m just not sure how. For such a large man Austin proved himself to be a capable tap dancer, and Milley flat admitted his incompetence.<\/p>\n

Q: Do you have the capability to go out and collect Americans?<\/p>\n

SEC. AUSTIN: We don’t have the capability to go out and collect up large numbers of people.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

GEN. MILLEY: Well, I stood behind this podium, and it said that the Afghan security forces had the capacity, and by that, I mean, they had the training, the size, the capability to defend their country. This comes down to an issue of will and leadership. And no, I did not, nor did anyone else see a collapse of an army that size in 11 days.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Perhaps the non-combatants may have been, I don’t know, evacuated before the US capitulation? Milley’s bald-faced lie aside, why TF did he NOT see the collapse coming after all support was withdrawn from the ANA, nearly overnight?<\/p>\n

I’ve heard Dunkirk mentioned. That comparison breaks down pretty quickly, considering how Churchill successfully evacuated some 338,000 British Expeditionary Force and other Allied troops, rescuing them from annihilation.<\/p>\n
