I posted the video of the incident, which I&#8217;ll post again below. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is looking into the matter, but I can&#8217;t imagine it&#8217;ll be a long investigation. Jeff LPH 3 sends in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2021\/08\/17\/air-force-launches-investigation-after-human-remains-found-in-c-17-flying-out-of-kabul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Military Times report<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The U.S. Air Force on Tuesday confirmed that human remains were found in the wheel well of a C-17 Globemaster III after desperate Afghans mobbed the transport jet as it departed Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The service\u2019s Office of Special Investigations has opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the widely covered incident that went viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[OSI] is reviewing all available information regarding a C-17 aircraft that departed Hamid Karzai International Airport [on Aug. 16] and the loss of civilian lives \u2014 to include video documentation and the source of social media posts,\u201d Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators will also look into online videos and press reports of people falling from the aircraft on departure, she said. Afghans clung to the jet during takeoff and were captured on video plunging from the sky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOSI\u2019s review will be thorough to ensure we obtain the facts regarding this tragic incident,\u201d Stefanek said. \u201cOur hearts go out to the families of the deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the U.S. winds down its withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years of war, Taliban militants have swiftly regained control of the beleaguered nation, sending locals fleeing for the exits. The Globemaster III from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state arrived at the Kabul airport with equipment to help evacuate Americans and Afghans seeking refuge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the aircrew could offload the cargo, the aircraft was surrounded by hundreds of Afghan civilians who had breached the airport perimeter,\u201d Stefanek said. \u201cFaced with a rapidly deteriorating security situation around the aircraft, the C-17 crew decided to depart the airfield as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The jet taxied through the crowd and escaped. When the crew landed at Al Udeid Air Base, a U.S. military hub in Qatar, human remains were discovered in the compartment that holds the plane\u2019s landing gear after it retracts.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Can&#8217;t say I blame that crew one bit. From that cockpit and\/or rear door you&#8217;d be facing the real possibility of losing the aircraft to the mob or worse. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=116517\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">If this is the same one that I linked to yesterday<\/a> that took some 600-plus people out, then they did the absolute best they could, above and beyond actually, with a terrible situation.<\/p>\n<p>Daily Mail has some horrific video of the person in question. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9901013\/Horrific-video-Afghan-caught-landing-gear-c-17-clambering-plane-emerges.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here&#8217;s the link for those morbidly curious<\/a>. Daily Mail also have a lot of photos of the situation on the ground. It looks like a lot of US military gear (or at least sourced from us) was left behind.
