The aircraft is nominally designed to hold 150 souls at max, but they shoehorned 640 inside.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of many repeats from the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Here&#8217;s a news story from 1975 about the last flight out of Da Nang;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0pKdXEw4d_A\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The 727-100 carried a normal passenger capacity of 125 and they took on 268 people in the passenger cabin and another 60 in the cargo holds.<\/p>\n<p>The photo of the C-17 overloaded with desperate souls is the story of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.littlerock.af.mil\/News\/Photos\/igphoto\/2001741050\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the last C-130 to leave Vietnam<\/a>. A South Vietnamese Air Force plane, which normally carries fewer than 100 people, was loaded with an amazing 452 people, 32 in the cockpit alone! If you&#8217;ve ever been on a full C-130 you know it&#8217;s nuts to butts. I can&#8217;t imagine cramming four and a half times as many people in.
