David Alan D’Anunzio<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The folks at Military Phony<\/a> send us their work on the David Alan D’Anunzio<\/a> fella.\u00a0 D\u2019Anunzio comes to us from Brooksville, Florida but appears to have grown up in upper New York state.\u00a0 His Facebook page claims he lives in Tampa, Florida which is just south of Brooksville.\u00a0 D\u2019Anunzio is 58 years old at the time of this writing \u2013 July 2021.<\/p>\n

D\u2019Anunzio currently serves as the Department of Florida\u2019s VFW Sgt-at-Arms.<\/p>\n

In the above photo, D\u2019Anunzio proudly displays a US Navy SEAL Trident on his chest.<\/p>\n

He also has a Combat Action Ribbon which will be addressed later.\u00a0 For now, please note that his CAR is worn upside down.<\/p>\n

In a photo of the honor guard at VFW Post 8681<\/a>, you can make out the US Navy SEAL Trident but it is a bit harder to see.\u00a0 The section to focus on was enlarged.<\/p>\n

Someone that met D\u2019Anunzio recently said that D\u2019Anunzio claimed that he was in BUD\/S Class 114 and stationed with SEAL Team 2.<\/p>\n

There was some suspicion by a former Navy SEAL.\u00a0 He checked the BUD\/S-SEAL database only to find D\u2019Anunzio as not being listed.\u00a0 This was also confirmed by a SEAL that works with Military Phony.. . . . .<\/strong><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

We were able to find a photo in the 1983-84 East Med Cruise book for the USS John F. Kennedy.\u00a0 This coincides with the time D\u2019Anunzio was on that ship.<\/p>\n

Although the name is possibly misspelled, \u2018DS\u2019 would have been his rating at the time.\u00a0 We could not find anyone in the United States with the name spelled as \u201cA\u2019Anunzio\u201d so there is reasonable suspicion it is him. The photo doesn\u2019t really add any value to the case other than establishing his unit was not a SEAL Team.<\/p>\n

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

We came across this newspaper article which falls under the category of \u201cHometown Heroes\u201d or \u201cLocal Military News\u201d area.\u00a0 \u201cGates\u201d refers to a town in New York, about 10-minute drive from Rochester.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY<\/strong><\/h1>\n

There is no record of David Alan D\u2019Anunzio attending BUD\/S-SEAL training and no record of him serving with a SEAL Team.<\/p>\n

In fact, the BUD\/S class that D\u2019Anunzio claimed \u2013 BUD\/S Class 114 \u2013 classed up the same month that D\u2019Anunzio joined the Navy so that would be impossible.<\/p>\n

D\u2019Anunzio wears a Combat Action Ribbon (CAR).\u00a0 The ship he was on \u2013 the USS McInerney (FFG-8) – earned a CAR for the Gulf War.\u00a0 We do wonder if he was asked about his CAR and that may have lead to the story of him being a SEAL \u2013 implying an individual award vs. a ship award \u2013 but who knows?<\/p>\n

If D\u2019Anunzio has used false claims to gain anything of value \u2013 he may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.<\/p>\n

Ironically, D\u2019Anunzio was released from active duty on July 1, 1992 \u2013 exactly 29 years ago yesterday.\u00a0 I’m sure he is reflecting on his many years of NOT being a SEAL.\u00a0 \u00a0When discharged, D’Anunzio joined the lucrative ranks of all those prior Navy sailors that were NOT SEALs.<\/p>\n

The older we get the better we were.<\/em><\/p>\n

Oh, one more thing – D’Anunzio is one of the first people that we ran across that DOES have an Honorable Discharge Button… so there’s that.\u00a0 That has got to be rare – not meaning it is rare to have an honorable discharge, but rare to have the Honorable Discharge Button in one’s records.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
