Biden presented his argument as to why his gun control initiative should pass. His explanation appears to be inconsistent with both the Second Amendment’s text and with U.S. History.<\/p>\n

The Second Amendment from the day it was passed limited the type of people who could own a gun. Or what type of weapon you can own. You couldn’t buy cannon. Those who say the blood the, the blood of patriots you know, and all this stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government. Well the Tree of Liberty is not watered with the blood of patriots. What’s happened is that there never been, if you want, if you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F15s and maybe some nuclear weapons. The point is that there is always been the ability to limit, rationally limit the type of weapon that could be owned and who could own it.<\/p>\n

The Second Amendment:<\/span><\/p>\n

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.<\/p>\n
