Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announcing the reversal. Schumer\u2019s staff did not immediately respond to a request for clarification from Army Times, and the senator deleted a previous tweet hailing Wormuth\u2019s confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>Wormuth\u2019s confirmation was the only one reversed.<\/p>\n<p>Wormuth had already acknowledged her confirmation online, saying she was \u201cso honored to be confirmed as Secretary of the Army\u201d in response to a friend\u2019s tweet. Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston had also shared his congratulations with his new civilian boss as well.<\/p>\n<p>Roll Call reporter Andrew Clevenger described the move as \u201cmore like a procedural hiccup than a threat to her historic confirmation\u201d in a Wednesday evening tweet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Procedural hiccup?&#8221; What the hell is that? <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/555695-senate-confirms-then-unconfirms-army-secretary-nominee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hill describes it thusly<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Senate appeared to approve Wormuth\u2019s nomination to be Army secretary Wednesday evening when Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) took to the floor and got unanimous consent to confirm Wormuth, as well as a batch of military nominations.<\/p>\n<p>But a couple hours later, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) got unanimous consent to \u201cvitiate\u201d the earlier action on Wormuth, rescinding her confirmation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I can&#8217;t really find what &#8220;vitiate&#8221; means as a rule of parliamentary procedure in the Senate. It\u00a0<em>might\u00a0<\/em>be related to the lack of a quorum. So &#8220;unanimous consent&#8221; when too few Senators are present to count as a vote.
