Skippy sends us the sad news of the passing of SGT Houston Tumlin. While known for his childhood movie role, he chose to serve his country in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. Apparently his inner demons got the best of him, and he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.<\/p>\n
Tumlin’s mother Michelle Tumlin told TMZ that he had struggled with mental health issues prior to his death by suicide<\/p>\n The one-time child actor, who appeared with Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights, was 28 when he killed himself on Tuesday<\/p>\n Tumlin’s family walked in a suicide prevention march over the weekend in his memory<\/p>\n The actor-turned-soldier worked to repair telegraph lines in Alabama following his discharge from the US Army after six years of service<\/p>\n His Instagram account didn’t appear to show signs of internal turmoil and instead was filled with happy photos of his family and dog<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n By BRIAN MARKS<\/strong><\/p>\n The Talladega Nights actor Houston Tumlin struggled with mental health prior to his death by suicide and following his service in the United States Army.<\/p>\n According to the late actor’s mother, Michelle Tumlin, her son battled depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, which she blames for his suicide on March 23 at age 28, TMZ reports.<\/p>\n Despite his internal struggles, Tumlin received multiple commendations during his service, including the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.<\/p>\n However, it was earning his Air Assault wings that made Tumlin proudest, his mother says.<\/p>\n Tumlin will reportedly be honored for his life and his service with a full military funeral.<\/p>\n His family have already been doing their part to honor his memory and spread his story by walking in a suicide prevention march just days after his death in Helena, Alabama.<\/p>\n The event was held to raise awareness of veteran suicide and how to get support for PTSD.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Help is out there, please reach out.
