I should have titled this blog “Make Room for the Ladies… and All Those that Identify as Ladies.”<\/p>\n

The First G.I. Joe Live-Action Series Features Army Staff Sgt. Lady Jaye<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Amazon Prime Video continues its commitment to action series with plans for a show based on the G.I. Joe character Lady Jaye, an Airborne- and Ranger-qualified covert operations specialist. The character previously appeared in the 2013 movie “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” where she was portrayed by Adrianne Palicki.<\/p>\n

\nAmazon just announced a new series based on former\u00a0Navy SEAL\u00a0Jack Carr’s James Reece novels, with the first season focused on “The Terminal List.” Amazon is also home to “Bosch,” the series about Iraq War veteran and LAPD detective Harry Bosch; “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” starring John Krasinski; and an upcoming series based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels.<\/p>\n

\nIf you’re confused by this announcement, you’re probably on the wrong side of the G.I. Joe generational controversy. Anyone who grew up with the 12-inch-tall action figure whose tools were based on real military gear is bound to be baffled by the universe of weirdness that came with Joe’s 3.75-inch relaunch in the 1980s.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First let me say that I’m all for it.\u00a0 But, let me be devil’s advocate for a second.\u00a0 Why does Lady Jaye have to be well-endowed with her top-side screaming to bust out of her blouse with the zipper top button<\/del> holding on for dear life?\u00a0 Isn’t this objectifying women?<\/p>\n

We saw it with the fictitious first female Navy SEAL with “G.I. Jane.”\u00a0 We saw a first with a US Navy support ship being named after gay rights advocate Harvey Milk with the USNS Harvey Milk.<\/a><\/p>\n

When do transgenders get representation?\u00a0 \u00a0What if I want to buy a transgender doll for my child to play with so I can demonstrate that it is OK to identify with whatever sex they wish to?\u00a0 It shouldn’t matter if there is no market for such a doll and it is a losing proposition to make and sell one, it should be about equitable representation.\u00a0 Isn’t being equitable the theme?\u00a0 I could make an argument that you have to generate a market to have market appeal.\u00a0 What if there were kids teetering on the edge of which sex they identify as – so a transgender doll may offer up a hero and tip the scales?<\/p>\n

Dr. Rachel Levine would most likely agree.<\/p>\n

As a side note – let me just say to those that would point out that Dr. Levine is butt ugly whether a man or a woman, a cartoon or doll version of her would surely have a Barbie doll face complete with ample breasts screaming to bust out of their top.\u00a0 Let’s not kid ourselves.<\/p>\n

Corporal Klinger from M*A*S*H was somewhat of an entry point but he was only trying to get out of the Army on a Section 8 and wasn’t a true transgender.\u00a0 Was Klinger an insult to all transgenders in its awkward stereotypical depiction?<\/p>\n

What if I saw my son playing with a G.I. Joe\/Ken doll, pull down Ken’s pants, and ask me why Ken was “all smooth down there?”\u00a0 What if he asked me if he should be ashamed of his “junk?”<\/p>\n

Why does Staff Sergeant Lady Jaye have to be white?\u00a0 If we need the next generation to be ashamed of their whiteness and its inherent contribution to white supremacy, how does this help further our goals as a nation?<\/p>\n

Who played with those small plastic green Army men?\u00a0 You know, the kind that had the one kneeling and shooting but you couldn’t ever get it to stand upright unless you dug it into the dirt?\u00a0 Same for the bazooka guy.\u00a0 The one lying prone was much easier.\u00a0 Who remembers the one ready to throw the grenade and had that picture-perfect throwing pose?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Not one woman or transgender in the entire lot.\u00a0 However, they now have a woman dog handler, a dog and offer them in pink.<\/p>\n

New plastic Army women include dog handler and Rosie the Riveter \u2014 and pink as a color option<\/a><\/p>\n

We’ve come a long way.<\/p>\n

There are more questions than answers, but Staff Sergeant Lady Jaye is a step in the right direction, bustiness aside.<\/p>\n

I welcome any and all examples to support the idea that the trend is moving toward PC military heroes.<\/p>\n
