Thursday, the US launched an airstrike in Syria that targeted Iran-backed militia groups \u2014 the first military action taken by the new Biden administration.<\/p>\n

Pentagon spox said the strike was in retaliation for a Feb. 15 rocket attack against a US military base at Erbil International Airport in Northern Iraq. A US-led coalition contractor was killed and others wounded, including an American service member.<\/p>\n

At the direction of President Joe Biden, the United States carried out an airstrike Thursday evening in Syria on a structure linked to an Iran-backed militia, according to a statement from the Department of Defense provided to American Military News.<\/p>\n

The strike was in response to three different rocket attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces in Iraq last week, aiming to harm the militia\u2019s ability to make future attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt President Biden\u2019s direction, U.S. military forces earlier this evening conducted airstrikes against infrastructure utilized by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria. These strikes were authorized in response to recent attacks against American and Coalition personnel in Iraq, and to ongoing threats to those personnel. Specifically, the strikes destroyed multiple facilities located at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups, including Kait\u2019ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kait\u2019ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
