Biden takes heat for repeating walked back claim from 2007 that he had been \u2018shot at\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Did President Joe Biden just borrow a page out of Hillary Clinton\u2019s playbook of exaggeration, or is he doing his best Brian Williams impersonation, where the NBC anchor falsely claimed he was in a helicopter that was shot at by a rocket-propelled grenade?<\/p>\n

What appears to be clear is that Biden repeated an old claim that he apparently forgot he had walked back well over a decade ago.<\/p>\n

The president was speaking to a group of diplomatic aides at the State Department on Thursday when he claimed he\u2019d been shot at.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have great personal courage. I\u2019ve been with some of you when we\u2019ve been shot at,\u201d Biden told the group.<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden has dusted off an old story about how he came under fire while visiting Iraq, more than a decade after he admitted the claim was somewhat exaggerated. \u2018Where\u2019s the MSM outrage?\u2019 social media users have asked.<\/p>\n

While addressing US State Department staff on Thursday, Biden hailed the diplomats for showing\u00a0\u201cgreat personal courage,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0which the new US president has purportedly seen first-hand.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve been with some of you when we\u2019ve been shot at,”<\/em>\u00a0he told the audience.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what Biden meant by the passing remark, and the White House has not elaborated on the statement.<\/p>\n

Biden has spoken about shooting-related close calls before, but he later walked back the claim. During a Democratic presidential debate in 2007, the then-senator alleged that he had been\u00a0\u201cshot at\u201d<\/em>\u00a0while inside Baghdad\u2019s fortified Green Zone.<\/p>\n

When later pressed by journalists to expand on the story, Biden acknowledged that it would have been more accurate to say that he was\u00a0\u201cnear where a shot [had] landed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo one got up and ran from the room \u2013 it wasn\u2019t that kind of thing,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said at the time, adding:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s not like I had someone holding a gun to my head.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, if you hear gunfire in the distance, they could<\/i> be shooting at you.<\/p>\n
