The NAACP has decided to demand that NASCAR ban all displays of the Confederate battle flag at the upcoming race in Homestead, Florida.<\/p>\n

And exactly how do they plan to coerce NASCAR into trampling the free speech rights of thousands of people?<\/p>\n

Well, a shakedown of course<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If the civil rights organization does not get the racing league\u2019s cooperation and support, officials there said they are prepared to begin contacting NASCAR\u2019s sponsors, and to stage protests during the races. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even the ACLU is supporting NASCAR in this made-up controversy. And who is at the source of this race-baiting, inciting a riot movement? Why a community organizer of course.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe intend to notify NASCAR about the troubling racial discord we have here in Homestead, and we would like their support,\u201d said Rosemary Fuller, a longtime member of the Miami-Dade NAACP who chaired an advisory board that the city council disbanded after board members challenged the Confederate Flag. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clue one: If you are too radical for the Miami City Council; you are a certified loon!<\/p>\n

Now the money quote:<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, we are still in the planning stages,\u201d Fuller said, \u201cbut if NASCAR decides to come here under these conditions, we will meet them at the racetrack.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n

Have you ever been to a NASCAR event? I have.<\/p>\n

Even though I grew up in the Deep South and spent a large portion of my career in the south I admit that I was never much of a NASCAR fan. C\u2019mon folks, I know many of you probably enjoy it but 3 hours of left turns waiting for a colossal, life threatening accident that routinely fails to deliver isn\u2019t my cup of joe.<\/p>\n

I am reminded of a summer afternoon at my grandparents when I was about 12 years old. I was sitting on the back porch with my grandmother. She was shelling peas and I was (bored out of my mind) watching chickens peck about the ground. I don\u2019t recall if they were circling to the left or not but it wasn\u2019t too exciting.<\/p>\n

But that changed quickly. My grandparent\u2019s dog Jack alerted but not in time to stop a fox from pouncing one of the chickens. Before the feathers had a chance to hit the ground Jack was on that fox faster than he would have hit a plate full of pork chops.<\/p>\n

Now this was entertainment!<\/p>\n

Of course the 40 pound fox soon realized the folly of fighting a 100 pound German Shepherd and managed an escape (though bloodied) into the cane field. I remember being very proud of that dog. My grandmother put a bandage on his leg and then Jack and I (armed with one those cheap kool aid popsicles) walked down to the pond and skipped rocks for a while.<\/p>\n

Why is this recollection relevant?<\/p>\n

Because NASCAR fans want excitement. I\u2019d say that fans of any sport want excitement.<\/p>\n

What happens if Rosemary and her crowd decide to take down one of those flags (privately owned property that is legally displayed by the way)?<\/p>\n

Of course this is exactly what Rosemary wants. It would make the news and her cred in the race-baiting community will only grow.<\/p>\n
