When they’re not breaking up Hasidic Jewish funerals or arresting people for not social distancing, apparently the NYPD is going after people with replica firearms used as props in music videos.<\/p>\n

Queens Woman Facing Charges For Prop Gun Collection<\/h3>\n

A Forest Hills woman is facing gun charges after New York Police Department (NYPD) officers raided her home last December and found 22 prop guns.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on Dec. 28, 2019 when police acted on a tip and executed a search warrant at the home of 31-year-old Elizaveta Zlatkis on 67th Road in Forest Hills, QNS reported.<\/p>\n

Zlatkis was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 because her children were in the home at the time of the raid.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s also facing eight misdemeanor counts of violating local laws related to ammunition, the Queens Eagle reported.<\/p>\n

Police celebrated the operation with a social media post that included a picture of the officers who seized the guns standing around a table displaying the fake weapons.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat job yesterday from our Field Intelligence Officer and Special Operations Unit for a successful search warrant taking multiple guns off the streets of Forest Hills,\u201d NYPD\u2019s 112th Precinct tweeted.<\/p>\n

But what NYPD failed to highlight in their tweet was the fact that 21 of the 22 \u201cguns\u201d that had been confiscated were airsoft rifles, starter pistols, or toy replicas, the Queens Eagle reported.<\/p>\n

The one real \u201cgun\u201d seized by police had been rendered inoperable and was missing its trigger, handgrip, and some internal components.<\/p>\n

It turned out that Zlatkis and her husband, Elvis Selimi, loan and rent the fake guns to production companies for use in music videos, the Queens Eagle reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do videos with them as props,\u201d Rosedale rapper Crucial explained. \u201cI didn\u2019t know you could actually get in trouble with all that. That\u2019s wild. They\u2019re fake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zlatkis appeared in the background of at least one music video by artist Tay Spades and has made friends in the industry, according to the Queens Eagle.<\/p>\n

She spent one night in jail after her arrest and was released by the judge on her own recognizance the next day.<\/p>\n

Her attorney, Joe Murray, said the judge recognized the absurdity of the charges, the Queens Eagle reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot a single gun was real,\u201d Murray said. \u201cI want to clear her name. She\u2019s not a gangster.\u201d<\/p>\n

NYPD has admitted the guns weren\u2019t operable, the Queens Eagle reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirearms were recovered on Friday, December 27, 2019 in regard to a search warrant and deemed inoperable at a later date,\u201d NYPD Detective Denise Moroney said.<\/p>\n

But despite the fact the \u201cguns\u201d seized weren\u2019t actual, operable lethal weapons, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has refused to drop the case, the Forest Hills Patch reported.<\/p>\n

Murray said Zlatkis has refused to accept a plea deal.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Katz\u2019s office refused to say whether the district attorney was considering dropping the charges and told the Forest Hills Patch that they didn\u2019t comment on pending cases.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She’s facing four charges off 22 “firearms” confiscated during the warrant. That leads me to believe that only four of them met some definition of a firearm in NYC. I’ve been told that pellet guns are illegal weapons in NYC. The latest crime stats show a 95% increase in first 11 months of 2020 compared to the same time last year. This seizure will surely make a dent in that, right?<\/p>\n
