Officer shoots, kills burglary suspect in South City Sunday morning<\/strong><\/p>\n

ST. LOUIS \u2014 A police officer searching a storage building shot and killed a burglary suspect after the man charged at him holding a screwdriver, police said.<\/p>\n

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting shortly after 5:40 a.m. Sunday inside a building in the 4400 block of Gravois Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n

Police Chief John Hayden, in a briefing to the press shortly before 8 a.m., said police officers were responding to a reported burglary at a private storage facility at 4410 Gravois, near the intersection of Gravois and Taft avenues.<\/p>\n

Arriving officers heard what appeared to be the sound of power tools being used inside the building, Hayden said.<\/p>\n

Police were searching the building when one officer confronted two suspects, Hayden said.<\/p>\n

One of the suspects charged at the officer while holding a screwdriver, Hayden said. The officer shot at the suspect several times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAn accused killer was released from jail Thursday after a Bronx grand jury determined he acted in self defense when he stabbed his girlfriend\u2019s ex to death.<\/p>\n

Manuel Williams, 36, got into a wild fight with his girlfriend and her ex Tyson Hawthorne, 38, who were sitting together in a double-parked SUV on E. 149th St. near Courtlandt Ave. in Mott Haven about 4 p.m. Nov. 24, according to cops.<\/p>\n

NYPD detectives arrested Williams on Nov. 27 on a murder charge. But a Bronx grand jury voted to dismiss the case, believing he killed Hawthorne in self defense, officials said.<\/p>\n

Williams was released from Rikers Island on Thursday after six days behind bars.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
