Several media outlets which include the Business Insider<\/a> are posting a story about an image that Australia claims was fake and put out by China.\u00a0 The image shows an Australian special forces soldier with a knife the the throat of a small Afghan boy with the caption “Don’t be afraid, we are coming to bring you peace!”<\/p>\n

The image was apparently posted by a Chinese official.<\/p>\n

Australia is demanding an apology.<\/p>\n

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australia demanded an apology after a senior Chinese official posted a fake image of an Australian soldier holding a knife with blood on it to the throat of an Afghan child, calling it \u201ctruly repugnant\u201d and demanding it be taken down.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Scott Morrison called a media briefing to condemn the posting of the image, marking another downturn in deteriorating relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The Australian government has asked Twitter to remove the image, posted on Monday by China\u2019s foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian on his official Twitter account, Morrison said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is utterly outrageous and cannot be justified on any basis,\u201d Morrison said. \u201cThe Chinese government should be utterly ashamed of this post. It diminishes them in the world\u2019s eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Australia has told 13 special forces soldiers they face dismissal in relation to an independent report on alleged unlawful killings in Afghanistan, the head of the country\u2019s army said on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
