Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, also known as Muhammad al-Masri, is an al-Qa\u2019ida senior leader and a member of al-Qa\u2019ida\u2019s leadership council, the \u201cmajlis al-shura.\u201d Abdullah also is an al-Qa\u2019ida financial officer, facilitator, and operational planner.<\/p>\n
He was indicted and charged by a federal grand jury for his role in the 7 August 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. The attacks killed 224 civilians and wounded more than 5,000 others.<\/p>\n
Al-Qaeda\u2019s leadership is in a crisis mode over the loss, analysts report.<\/p>\n

BY RICK MORAN<\/strong><\/p>\n Al-Qaeda\u2019s second in command, accused of masterminding the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Africa, was gunned down in the streets of Tehran by Israeli intelligence agents, reports the New York Times.<\/p>\n Egyptian born Abu Muhammad al-Masri was killed by two men on motorcycles in Tehran on August 7. It is believed Israel acted at the behest of the United States, which had been tracking al-Masri and other al-Qaeda \u201cprisoners\u201d living in Iran for years.<\/p>\n Much was made of Tehran\u2019s \u201ccooperation\u201d in holding al-Qaeda operatives under \u201chouse arrest\u201d by Iran\u2019s apologists on the American left. In truth, Iran was giving them safe haven, allowing them to plot attacks on the U.S. while living in luxury. Al-Masri was said to have been living in an \u201cupscale neighborhood\u201d of Tehran with his daughter, widow of the son of Osama bin Laden.
