Then some idiot comes up with the idea to make a “World War II Evacuee” costume. Another idiot sells it to a major retailer. Still more idiots put it out to market. So much failure to exercise good judgement and taste here.<\/p>\n

Comparisons have been made that this is an Anne Frank costume (in fact, one place listed it as such). Do these people just really not understand history?<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Anti-Defamation Commission\u00a0(ADC), Australia’s leading civil rights organization, has called on Australian stores to remove the evacuee girl and evacuee boy costumes from their shelves.<\/div>\n

In a statement on Saturday, ADC Chairman\u00a0Dr. Dvir Abramovich\u00a0said the costume was a “new low” for “poor taste, insensitivity and trivialisation of the Holocaust.”<\/div>\n

“This costume that seeks to make a profit out of suffering and tragedy crosses the line, big time.,” Abramovich said. “Cheap exploitation is not the way to honor the memory of the millions of children who were not evacuated in time, and who suffered terrible deaths.”<\/div>\n

Reviews of the “WWII evacuee girl” costume on Amazon seem to be a very mixed bag, with some outraged over the imagery, some outraged at the “itchy” fabric, and some, (perhaps worryingly) delighted by the costume’s resemblance to Frank, landing it an overall 4.3 rating on the retail site.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
