Police Called, But No One Responds<\/strong> BREAKING: Activists occupy Portland mayor Ted Wheeler\u2019s apartment and aren\u2019t leaving until he: resigns, abolishes the police by 2022 with no tech or private replacement, and allots saved resources to BIPOC communities and city services.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Ace of Spades<\/a><\/p>\n Earlier Friday, Ted Wheeler wrote to the president, declining an offer of more federal officers<\/strong><\/em> A group of Portland, Ore. protesters staged a sit-in inside the lobby of Mayor Ted Wheeler\u2019s condominium building Friday evening while others held a loud concert outside.<\/p>\n The protesters said they wouldn\u2019t leave until Wheeler meets with them over their demands that he resign, reduce the Portland Police Bureau budget and never vote to increase police spending.<\/p>\n The protest appeared to be peaceful as of 10 p.m. local time, although red-paint handprints were seen on the glass outside the lobby, according to independent journalist Garrison Davis.<\/p>\n Some of the protesters had left by 10 p.m. for unspecified “safety reasons,” Davis reported.<\/p>\n Late Friday, Wheeler’s office released a statement saying, “We are monitoring the situation and hope protesters remain peaceful for the safety of other residents,” according to KION-TV reporter Jennifer Dowling.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
