Normally, unless there’s a reason for a rant, I retire to the kitchen and take on a good book with a pot of tea and some choco chip cookies at my elbow. But this is different, and the gossip that is all over the internet is beyond annoying, especially since everyone is blaming the white kid who was attacked by rioters in Kenosha, WI.<\/p>\n
That it is clearly shown in all those online videos that Skateboard guy went after him and the others threatened him as well, it almost seems like self-defense is the proper interpretation. But it’s become complicated by the media sticking their oar into it and editorializing on it and ignoring a lot of stuff that is going to come up, such as the guy he shot in the arm being in possession of a pistol, clearly shown on one of those videos.<\/p>\n
As happened with Nick Sandmann, Rittenhouse will be tried, fried and crucified by the media mavens before he even gets legal assistance. I realize that he now has legal representation, but unless someone shuts down the media on this issue, it’s a feeding frenzy of warthogs and media whores. No offense meant to warthogs in general.<\/p>\n
To get down to the guts of it, here’s a compilation of information outside the events that transpired.<\/p>\n
First: no evidence has shown up so far that the gun used by Rittenhouse was actually his property. He is not old enough<\/em><\/strong> to purchase a gun of any kind in the state of Illinois. Being under age and in possession of a gun is a felony in Illinois<\/strong>. Regardless of actual ownership, just having a gun in his possession makes him a felon.<\/p>\n The minimum age for gun ownership in Illinois is 21, and an FOID is required<\/em>. Period. There are no options or compromises available to allow a minor in Illinois to own a ballistic weapon, period.\u00a0 No gunshop or shooting range owner is going to risk losing his business to selling or even renting ballistic weapons to a minor. The FOID law also applies to buying ammunition: you still have to be 21, and you have to have an FOID to do so. No FOID, no ammo, no gun. Period.<\/p>\n While NS Great Lakes, located in northeastern Illinois, has a training regimen that includes handling weapons, the recruits do not own those weapons. Week Four of Recruit training mostly consists of weapons training. Recruits gain familiarity with the M9<\/a>\u00a0pistol. Some time during the week, recruits receive a classroom lecture on firearms safety and operation of the M9. Recruits receive live-fire training with the M9. Recruits no longer receive training with the\u00a0M500 shotgun<\/a>\u00a0or the\u00a0M16 rifle<\/a>.\u00a0 – source: Wiki<\/p>\n If Rittenhouse had planned to join the military without parental consent, the requirement is that he has to be a minimum age of 18. Being under age at 17 requires parental consent. Therefore, regardless of what he may or may not have wanted to do as a career, if he wanted to join the military at 17, he’d have to have parental consent or wait until he reached his 18th birthday.<\/p>\n Now – well, if he had any career ambitions in the military, unless this is dismissed by the court (and don’t expect a quick episode, either) , he has destroyed any possibility of achieving that goal.<\/p>\n In Wisconsin, a minor from age 12 to 18 can use a gun under adult supervision<\/em> to go hunting or for target practice, but cannot own one or have it in his possession unless s\/he is accompanied by an adult<\/em>. The legal age in Wisconsin for gun ownership is 18. Rittenhouse is 17, which makes him a minor in Wisconsin. Residence has nothing to do with it. Since there is no evidence so far that he was in the company of adults, as shown by videos of him walking alone, away from the fight and toward the police, it is easy to assume that he was\/is an unaccompanied minor in illegal possession of a gun in the state of Wisconsin, unless shown otherwise. What I saw in all those videos is that he was attacked by rioters and was defending himself. As of this morning, he\u2019s being held in juvenile detention in northeastern Illinois.\u00a0 He’s already had an attorney (defended Nick Sandmann) volunteer to act as his defense, but even if the shooting charges are determined to be self-defense (as things appear to transpire in various videos), he has still committed a felony in both Illinois and Wisconsin by being a minor in possession of a gun. Let that sink in.<\/p>\n There is still the question of his carrying a gun across a state line from Illinois to Wisconsin, when he is a minor and is not eligible for a FOID in IL or for solo gun carry in WI. Period. That\u2019s two state laws broken, never mind transporting a gun across a state line if it was in his possession when he crossed the state line. In both states, he is not even old enough to buy ammunition. In regard to someone speculating on whether or not he’s an emancipated minor, that applies to where a minor chooses to live, not to being under age and buying or using a gun.<\/p>\n The question is obvious: what or who is the source of that gun, as well as the ammunition? There is no way Rittenhouse could obtain either guns or ammunition legally in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n If you review the videos, there appears to be no one acting as his supervisor.\u00a0He appears to be acting independently, which means he broke the Wisconsin state law on gun possession and age.<\/p>\n It is NOT gun ownership. Having something in your possession does NOT mean that you own it. If I took my Dad\u2019s car to the store, I was in possession of it, but I did NOT own it.
