For the first time in almost 30 years, the DOD is changing the ID card. It looks a lot like the CAC many will be familiar with, but is for those who do not rate a CAC. From the DOD;<\/p>\n

The Department of Defense is transitioning from its current paper-based Uniformed Services Identification (USID) card to a more secure, next generation USID card. The Next Generation USID card will incorporate an updated design and security features to deter counterfeiting and fraud, and will be printed on a plastic cardstock.\u00a0Initial issuance of the Next Generation USID card will begin on July 31, 2020 at select DoD ID card facilities, with phased implementation at all DoD ID card facilities projected to be complete in December 2020.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[DOD spokespersons] said it\u2019s possible in the future that physical cards might not be needed as much and the DoD might shift towards digital IDs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
